Dragon Age: Origins
« on: September 25, 2009, 07:00:03 AM »
Anyone looking forward to Bioware's Dragon Age: Origins? It's coming out Nov 3rd on PC and the 360.

http://dragonage.bioware.com/

It's supposed to be the spiritual successor the the Baldur's Gate series, though I'm not entirely sure what that's supposed to mean. I've seen references to the large assortment of side quests, epic nature of the main story, and the pause-actionqueue nature of combat. But I'm not really sure how that will translate into the same feelings I got while playing BG & BGII as I loved those games for more than size and combat mechanics.

Bioware has lost a little of its luster in my eyes, especially with their incredibly buggy & they don't care PC release of Mass Effect. I will almost certainly buy Dragon Age, I guess I am just preparing to be disappointed (though I hope I am very, very wrong).

Well I picked this up, and the fricking $34 CE strategy guide (!), I figure I'll have time to play it around Christmas. =)

The reviews though... I am very happy to read/know that I have a game worthy of my favorite RPG memories (Baldur's Gate I and II) to look forward to.

Anyone else have this or plan on getting it?

Anyone playing Dragon Age:Origins should check out:

www.dragonagejourneys.com

It's a flash web game based on DA:O, and beating certain areas grants you in game items if you link to your Bioware social account.

Kind of a cool little diversion, and a neat idea.

Any other DA:O players? I have to say I really liked this game. I sunk 82 hours into the main campaign + the two DLC addons, which is not all that shabby. I did feel like I was playing a modern Forgotten Realms Bioware epic, minus the FR lore and D&D system. The custom DA:O RPG system is functional and intuitive (they even made a table top game out of it), and the story/lore is of very high quality, and is already being treated to some novelized lore extensions. If any of you enjoyed the old 2e/3e Bioware/Black Isle games I would highly recommend Dragon Age: Origins.

I'm looking forward to the odd DLC module over the next year or two, and it does seem likely that a 2nd DA game will be made.

Have also played Dragon Age Origins  way too many hrs on characters lol. Awaiting for Awakening to be released to continue playing the game. Still have all the Baldurs Gate series and play them from time to time.

I bought the download of this shortly after it came out but never really had time to start playing it. I liked BG 1 and 2 also.
